Digitalisation of Tourism Industry: Transforming Workforce Development

To foster knowledge-sharing, discussion, and collaboration in understanding the digital economy, TFGI Brownbag offers a platform for exploring research, gathering feedback, and engaging diverse perspectives.

In this Brownbag session, Dr. Eylla Laire M. Gutierrez, Executive Director of the Dr. Andrew L. Tan Center for Tourism at the Asian Institute of Management, and Ray Justin A. Villanueva, Program and Research Associate, will present their research from the recently published paper, “Adapting to the Digital Shift: A Strategic Tourism Workforce Development Framework.” The study examines digitalisation’s role in shaping tourism workforce development, traces its integration into the industry, and maps stakeholder perspectives across sectors.

Key highlights include:

  • Timeline of Tourism Digitalisation
  • Stakeholder Perceptions of Digitalisation
  • Framework for Tourism Development and Digitalisation

The session will also discuss how digitalisation—seen by some as a threat and by others as an opportunity—is now essential in tourism. It will present a practical framework showing how digital tools can help improve workforce skills, support industry growth, and guide strategies for effective workforce development.
