Shaping the Future of the Digital Economy

The institute has launched an anthology of essays that captures the perspectives of youth across Southeast Asia on the impact of technology on their economies and societies.

In the context of the TFGI’s inaugural essay competition, themed “Shaping the Future of Southeast Asia’s Digital Economy,” the institute aimed to prompt critical thinking among future leaders. The competition, held in 2022, was one of TFGI’s latest initiatives, strategically designed to encourage participants, aged 18-35, from six Southeast Asian countries—Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.

As digitalisation rapidly transforms Southeast Asia (SEA), the competition aims to engage young minds in contemplating the evolving digital landscape they will contribute to shaping. This book is a compilation of key essays from the competition, forming an anthology that captures the diverse perspectives of youth across Southeast Asia regarding the impact of technology on their economies and societies.

Delving into the fundamental requirements to realise technology’s promise, the anthology explores the transformative power of technology and its effects on specific sectors, shedding light on how these developments have impacted local communities. It also addresses real concerns and anxieties about the potential of technologies and the influence wielded by those who develop, manage, and control these technological advancements.
