Hanoi, May 21, 2026 – In the context of Vietnam’s economy maintaining high economic growth over the past few years with urbanization and improving incomes, there has been a growing demand for convenient, safe, and efficient transportation options. Meeting this sustainable transportation need requires smarter application of technology and a thorough understanding of the accompanying challenges. The ultimate goal is to ensure that transportation innovations are implemented in a synchronous manner, to meet the needs of families and communities around the country, while also being implemented at the right pace and in the right sequence to deliver overall benefits to society.
In that spirit, on May 21, in Hanoi, the Vietnam Economic Association (VEA), VnEconomy, and the Technology for Good Institute (TFGI), in collaboration with knowledge partner the Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (IPSS), will co-organize the “Mobility, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Society: Strengthening the Future of Transportation in Vietnam” seminar.
The event is expected to see nearly 100 guests attend, including representatives from relevant ministries and agencies, businesses, and domestic and international experts, to discuss how best to apply technology to promote sustainable transportation solutions that benefit the entire population.
Speakers will discuss solutions to support for technological innovation can address the most persistent challenges in Vietnam’s transportation sector. The seminar will also discuss the challenges of large-scale transition sequences and discuss interventions to maximize long-term benefits for the public.
Representatives from the public sector will cover areas such as transportation and infrastructure policy, science and technology, environmental management, and local governance. Those from private sector will focus on logistics and supply chain management, energy and electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, AI, and technology. Experts will share insights from the latest research on AI and human resources to support policy-making.
Accordingly, the seminar will be structured into two sessions: Presentations and Discussions.
The Presentations session will include two addresses from representatives of the IPSS and TFGI on the topic “AI and the state of mobility in Vietnam and Southeast Asia”.
The Discussions session will revolve around three main themes.
Theme 1: The opportunity – Multiple pathways to strengthen mobility for Vietnamese people. This will touch on different transportation pathways for Vietnam and how AI could play a driving role in all of them.
Theme 2: The challenges – Understanding timelines, trade-offs, and “what it takes to get there”. Participants will focus on the challenges of implementing solutions on a large scale, as well as how socio-economic factors need to be considered to achieve long-term transportation goals.
Theme 3: The way forward – An AI-enabled, people-centered collaborative ecosystem. This focuses on action, with future-oriented frameworks aimed at building the most convenient transportation system for the population.
The seminar will be filmed for archival purposes. A summary of the highlights from the panel discussion will be published on the TFGI website after the event.
